PRESENTATION I

Speaker: Kai Spichale, Senior Software Engineer at adesso ag

Kai Spichale is a Senior Software Engineer at adesso, a leading IT service provider in Germany, where he is responsible for designing and developing Java applications. Kai is passionate about NoSQL and Big Data trends and has written numerous articles about these topics.

Abstract: Full-text search with NoSQL Technologies

The increasing amount of semi-structured data, which is basically text-heavy, leads to wider adoption of NoSQL and full-text search technologies. In this talk Kai Spichale describes how NoSQL technologies such as Neo4j, MongoDB, Apache Cassandra, and Apache Hadoop can be used for text searches. The talk also addresses the combination of NoSQL data stores and Lucene-based search engine.

The presentaton is now online: Full-text Search with NoSQL Technologies

PRESENTATION II

Speaker: Torben Brodt, plista GmbH

Torben Brodt is Head of Data Engineering at plista GmbH, a recommendation- and advertising-network founded in Berlin, Germany. In 2010 he published the book "Collaborative Filtering for automatic recommendations [de]" and nowadays advocates the power of algorithms in public talks across events, radio and television.

Abstract:

The in-memory database Redis empowers us to build a most popular recommender just counting hits. To further improve recommendations Redis allows us to combine different different layers in real time. This talk will cover a empirical solution to recommender problems without using batch processes.

The presentaton is now online: Realtime Recommendations with Redis

PRESENTATION III

Speaker: Stefan Plantikow,

Stefan Plantikow is a computer scientist and now works as an engineer with neo technology where he takes part in developing the Cypher query language and the graph database Kernel. He studied computer and speech science, worked on enterprise application integration in the industry, and as a researcher in distributed systems, data management, and graph sharding at the Zuse Institute in Berlin.

Abstract:

The talk will present an overview on graph databases, show their benefits for flexible data modeling, and discuss how they compare to other approaches. On the practical side, I will give an introduction to the the Neo4j graph database and show how it's query language Cypher helps querying and extracting information from a graph

PRESENTATION I

Speaker: Eberhard Wolff, Architecture and Technology Manager for adesso AG

Eberhard Wolff is working as Architecture and Technology Manager for adesso AG in Berlin. His focus is on NoSQL, Spring and Cloud. He is one of the initial 20 members of the Java Champions. Eberhard is a regular speaker at international conferences and author of several articles and books.

Abstract: NoSQL: An Architect's Perspective

NoSQL offers new choices for persistence technologies. Architects need to decide which technologies and architectural approaches should be used in a project - a complex decision that needs to take a lot of different aspects into account. This talk gives some hints how the architecture is influenced by NoSQL and how to come up with good technology decisions.

PRESENTATION II

Speaker: Simon Vans-Colina, Client Service Engineer @basho

After 15 years doing Architecture, Support and Devops on WebLogic and Java, Simon saw the light and joined Basho. He now works at and travels from Basho's London office. His go to language is Python

Abstract: A few things you can't do on a distributed system. Or can you?"

  The talk covers the following:
* Moving back towards consistency in an eventually consistent, distributed system
* How to do atomic operations on Riak

PRESENTATION III

Speaker: Bjoern Stiel, CEO & Co-founder at datamash.io

Björn Stiel is Co-Founder and CEO of DatamashIO, a London and Berlin based data integration platform founded in 2012. Before setting up DatamashIO Björn worked as a quantitative analyst and trader in the financial services industry, building models on top of huge amounts of heterogenous data. Björn is a data enthusiast and passionate about unlocking the value of data.

Abstract: Using MongoDB as an intermediary data hub

Organisations produce an ever increasing amount of data that comes in different structures and formats. In this talk, Björn Stiel describes how MongoDB can be used as an intermediary data hub for efficient processing, querying and analytics for schema-free data. The talk also addresses issues and best practice when using MongoDB with scripting languages such as Python and Ruby.
