Device data is everywhere. On our phones, energy meters, medical devices, hard drives, routers, and more. Just gathering and storing this data can be a very difficult big data challenge in itself. In this talk I will discuss the typical needs of customers with device data and share how we use technologies like Hadoop, Cassandra, HBase, and Solr to bring real time search to big data.

Biography: Ryan Tabora

Ryan Tabora is a Senior Data Engineer at Think Big Analytics. There, Ryan is responsible for strategic planning and implementation of Big Data projects for Think Big's Fortune 500 customers. Ryan has deep technical expertise focused around Big Data, including Hadoop, HBase, Cassandra, Solr and Flume. He has extensive experience building Big Analytic applications that have enabled companies to generate valuable insights and measurable ROI from their data. Examples include a RESTful API using Solr, HBase and Hadoop to search device data, MapReduce to make unstructured log data readable through Hive, and an ingestion framework to absorb data from multiple sources and drop it into HDFS. Ryan is also a contributor to Think Big Academy, delivering content and courses for Big Data training and is the co-author of the upcoming O'Reilly publication, Solr: The Definitive Guide.

Ryan's interests include playing bass guitar, reading comic books and hanging out with his two dachshunds, Brutus and Puck.
